Nintendo fans have been waiting with baited breath for the next game console from the company, codenamed "Revolution". A recent press release, however, had the company announce the official name, Wii(pronounced "we")

What...the…fuck?

The official website ([link]) explains "While the code-name 'Revolution' expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games...and each other." The site also says that "Wii" will be easy for people around the world to remember, no matter what language, and avoid abbreviation. Using "ii" instead of "e" is to represent "both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play." Also, keep in mind that "ii" is Japanese for "good"

Nintendo took similar steps with their last console, Gamecube. Through its development, it was codenamed the Dolphin, but shortly before its release it announced it would officially called Gamecube.

Now, this worked, because while gamers thought "Dolphin sounds cool", the name Gamecube knocked it up a notch. BAM!

However, when you try to do something similar with codename Revolution, you'd better make sure the real name is twice as cool, because, let's face it, Revolution sounds awesome!

Honestly, I preferred it when they were going to call it "GO!" (Go is Japanese for 5, and this is the fifth console) and that sounded really bad.

The only benefit I can see to calling it "Wii" is the great puns you can do.
